Understanding Smoking Bans |
There are many reasons behind governmental smoking policies and the general cultural aversion to tobacco products, but the most important to be aware of is probably second hand smoke. New medical studies have proven that long-term exposure to second hand smoke can lead to similar health risks, and as a result, people across the world have become more concerned about cigarettes smoke. In addition to governmental smoking policies, second hand smoke lawsuits have prompted companies and business owners to create smoking bans at work. It is now difficult to smoke anywhere in public, which is why alternative tobacco devices have become more popular among socially conscious smokers. In fact, the very act of smoking, even where it is allowed, can often illicit disapproving expressions from those around you. Few like the smell of cigarette smoke, but it is a very distinctive one. Chances are if you've ever tried to light up somewhere when it was not permitted, the glances of other people told you to put it out before anyone official noticed your actions.
The general anti-smoking social stigma is so strong that there have even been successful second hand smoking lawsuits filed against individuals. Smokers are in the difficult position of having to adjust their lives around a habit that was once completely acceptable, but has changed dramatically in the last few years.
