The Power of Anti-Smoking Campaigns |
Anti-smoking ad campaigns focus on reminding smokers about the negative effects of smoking and second hand smoke. But these ad campaigns, and many non-smokers, seem utterly unaware of a simple fact: for smokers, smoking isn't all bad. It feels good to smoke because getting the nicotine your body craves relaxes and calms your nerves. Furthermore, many feel that smoking helps them to focus better. Cigarettes give you something to look forward to, even on the worst of days. For lots of smokers, certain activities, like driving, drinking a cup of coffee, or finishing a meal wouldn't be the same without that familiar satisfaction. Of course, anti-smoking advocates are quick to point out that the positives and negatives are out of balance, and they're right; smoking tobacco cigarettes takes more away from smokers than it gives back. However, it's hard to give up small pleasures and habits, especially when they're linked to a powerful chemical addiction. Most smokers should be overjoyed to learn there's now a way to get rid of most, if not all, of the negatives associated with smoking while not having to give up any of the positives.
