''Smoking-related illnesses claim more American lives than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide and illegal drugs combined.'' All smokers saw before the image of a lung of a smoker. Cigarettes are full with poisons, hundreds of them: Tar, Carbon-Monoxide, Carcinogens - to mention a few. Why would anyone want to put that in his/her body?!
Well at first it might be fun or taste good, but the main reason that people continue smoking, is that cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is harmless by itself, the only thing about it, is that it is addictive. That is why smokers have a hard time kicking the habit.
This is what the cancer society has to say about nicotine: "Many people mistakenly think that nicotine is the substance in tobacco that causes cancer. This belief may cause some people to avoid using nicotine replacement therapy when trying to quit. Although nicotine is what gets (and keeps) people addicted to tobacco, other substances in tobacco are responsible for its cancer-causing effects.”
